Work in progress

This section lists evolutions that are planned or under evaluation. Nothing here is available in version 1.0.0, and nothing here is a commitment on content or dates.

Topic Status Description
Predefined converters Planned for 1.1.0 Ready-made converters for common types that are not written natively today, limited to types with a single, parameter-free canonical representation. Candidate families: identifiers and resources (UUID, URI, Path), date and time types, legacy dates, containers (Optional, List, arrays). The final subset, and whether they are active automatically or opt-in, will be decided during the implementation.
Shareable sheet configuration (“corporate preset”) Under evaluation Sharing not only named styles (already possible with style sheets) but the whole sheet configuration: preset, accent colour, auto-filter and the binding between slots and styles, as one reusable corporate preset.
Catalogue of named table styles Under evaluation Building on the shareable configuration, a catalogue of predefined table styles selectable by name, similar to the table style gallery of Excel. Whether the accent colour stays overridable per report, or each colour is a separate entry, is still open.
Streaming mode for very large volumes Under evaluation A mode that writes rows progressively instead of building the whole workbook in memory, for exports beyond the volumes in section 12.3. It would be added as a compatible extension, with a new kind of input for streamed data.
Restricting access to internal classes Under evaluation Preventing applications from depending on the internal packages, which today are public for technical reasons.
Documentation assistant Under evaluation, after the library is stable in production An assistant on the documentation site that receives a Java class and a description of the desired table and returns the class with the sheetsmith annotations applied, with a short explanation.

The following are out of scope and not planned: reading Excel files, the .xls format, native Excel tables (sheetsmith keeps its own style model), and translation of header texts.
